One week from yesterday, and I am glad to be on this side of the story now. I know I have much more to go with my treatments and journey, but this surgery seemed to be the hardest so far for me to face. But everyone was wonderful at the hospital, although the new nurses didn’t always follow through when I told them I needed something, but I didn’t let that bother me. As long as I wasn’t in horrible pain, or some other discomfort, I could tough out the little things.

The pain pump I had come home with finally emptied out and it was much smaller. The nurses told me that when it was flat, I would know it was empty, but it never was flat. If you saw the thing, there was no way possible that it could go flat. But it was more tubular, so I guess to them that translates into flat. Whatever I guess. I got that removed, so I feel like I have less to have to manage. He didn’t remove the drains though because they hadn’t slowed down as yet. The magic number is less than 15 cc, and it never got down to that. So I have my little partners for another week. If they do decrease in draining, I can call the doctor’s office and come in sooner to have them removed. That would be nice and I will be a freed up woman!

Then Pete took us home, and he left for work after being with me for a whole week. I looked around and realized there are several things around here that I can not do right now, so when people call and ask if they can do something, I am going to take them up on it, but pick one or two small things for them to do, so Pete doesn’t have to do it after working all day.

I got a few lovely phone calls from friends, which was very nice and one friend did offer to do something, so I let her do a couple of things that would make me feel restless about, and that was a wonderful thing. Bless you, Christine! I had her go on a walk with me since it was my first walk outside since surgery, but I only went one block and I will do more tomorrow. A little at a time.

Today I tried to not take the strong pain medication because I was tired of being so draggy. I used Ibuprofen a couple of times and it helped, but after the second round, it wasn’t doing it for me. My blood pressure actually went up because of the pain, and I was nauseated again. I decided it was still too soon for me to play the martyr, so I went for the strong stuff. I do feel better now and I will be able to rest better. I won’t be on all this soon enough. So I am tired. I suppose at this time it shouldn’t really matter.

This afternoon, a different home health nurse from Best Care came to see me and help me redress my wound site. She even helped me figure out how to put on an article of clothing that I found awkward to put on. You would think dressing wouldn’t be a big deal, but when the arm is limited in lifting because of pain, or surgical issues, it is a major involvement. Being a nurse, it is odd being on this side of the story rather than being the one who helps the patient. Anyway, the nurse I met today, named Yolanda, was a sweet heart, and we got on grandly. She even said she was sorry she would not be my nurse the next scheduled meeting because she enjoyed our visit and she said I was fun. I was taken back on that for some reason, and felt like God gave me favor. I have been hearing a lot of that lately and wonder if it is God actually saying it to me through them. I have never thought of people thinking of me that way, or have had so many new acquaintances say that to me. I have never thought of myself as anyone special, but it is like God is telling me that is how he sees me. I feel humbled just pondering that. I do have to admit that in going through a difficult season such as this, that when something kind is expressed to me or done for me, I am totally blessed and I sometimes overwhelmed with awe. Thank you God for carrying me through this with special people that I am meeting, and getting to be touched by the friends and family I already have.

Then again, my wonderful friends down the street, Elaine and Tom, brought me a lovely meal. How blessed Pete and I are to have such sweet, helpful friends.

This morning I went to my plastic surgeon for my first follow up visit after my surgery.
