First to the Medical Oncologist, and then to the Plastic Surgeon. The Medical Oncologist was very happy with how the surgery turned out. The surgeon is a true artist. I got my schedule set up for my next blood draw and flushing of my port, so I am set with her.

Later in the morning I went to the Plastic Surgeon and he took out the two drain tubes. Yes!!! I hope I can sleep better without those uncomfortable things. I told him that I was having chest pain when bending over and when laying down; and I told him that I have been unable to sleep laying flat, but that I have had to sleep with my head up higher in the recliner. I showed him (and the Medical Oncologist) my swollen feet and the pitting edema, and also told him that I have been consistently been gaining one to two pounds a day. The doctor looked a bit concerned with that information, and said that it is probably just the surgery pain and fluid build up, but that he would talk to my General Practitioner first and then tell me what I needed to do. So I waited in the surgeon’s office for a few minutes, and then he came out and told me that now my GP wanted me to come to the office straight from there, and he would talk to me.

So I wasn’t done. My GP’s office squeezed me in between scheduled appointments, so I went straight there. He did an EKG and checked my O2 saturation after walking up and down the hall, and some other things. The EKG was fine, but my oxygen wasn’t quite high enough. I told him that maybe it was because my fingers were probably swollen as well. He said that it is probably just the surgery fluid gain and post-surgical pain, but he wanted to rule out the possibility of a pulmonary embolism which can also cause chest pain and edema.

So I still wasn’t done for the day. I got scheduled for a stat CT angiogram to rule out a pulmonary embolism, and we had to go down to a Pismo Beach diagnostic center because my usual San Luis Diagnostics Center the machine was broken. All this driving today. I could not eat or drink anything until after the test. The last time I ate was a bite of a scone to take a pain pill at 10 am, and prior to that was my breakfast. But I knew it would be OK. Afterward, the technician told me that the radiologist would call me in the next half hour if there was a problem and then I would probably have been taken to the hospital. But he didn’t call, and I will probably hear from the doctor tomorrow.

My GP called in an order for a diuretic to get rid of the edema, so I will start that tomorrow morning. My Plastic Surgeon told me I can’t even take a walk for a while since he took out the drains, so that I don’t stimulate more fluids in the surgery site. I told him I was fit before all this. And he reply was “I know, but I want you to not exercise now”. I arranged for my friend to walk little Tink tomorrow morning for me, but I am very bummed about that. But then I am happy to have the drains out. I expect to sleep better, and I suspect I will have less pain. I am disappointed that I couldn’t go to a special meeting tonight, but I do need to rest. This is my season to rest now. I need to remember that. I sometimes more than I should, think that life is passing me by, but if I think about it again, I am actually saving my life. It is easy to lose perspective sometimes. Now on to resting.

I am truly thankful for all the help and the meals being brought to Pete and myself. You have no idea how it has helped in this crazy season that Pete and I have been going through. It truly helps decrease the level of stress, but it really makes us feel cared for and loved. Thank you, thank you!! And bless you all doublefold!!

I had two doctor’s appointments this morning.
