I would make myself all comfortable and put my book, phone and whatever I could think of to make myself stay sitting with my feet up as ordered by the doctor. I would think I am settled, and then I would pop up realizing I needed something and then I found myself straightening up and not doing the sitting down thing. I get so distracted to the task on hand which is to rest. I did manage to finally enter my phone numbers into my new phone that I needed to do for a while. Now I am set unless I forgot one, but I can add as needed now.

It is hard to be compliant when I see so many things I want to do around here, but they required me to be on my feet and putter around. I am good at puttering around. I never get things done because I drift from one task to another and forget about the original task. I have always been that way, but now after chemo and now pain medications and such, I think I am worse. Ha. But right now my task is to rest and recover and put my feet up. When the fluids build up, I really notice the pain is much worse, so I have been struggling with more pain because of all the post surgical edema.

Yesterday I saw the home health nurse and since I now have the drains out, it was the last visit from them unless I find I need them in the future. It is open ended. I can take my own blood pressure and all that myself. I did enjoy meeting them. It felt like a social opportunity for me rather than a medical visit. At least I liked to think of it that way.

Then in the evening, I wanted to start the home bible study at our friends’ home and thought that it wouldn’t be too strenuous to go to. I found once we were there, I had a difficult time concentrating and was uncomfortable with swelling and some pain. I was thinking that maybe it was too soon to even do this activity. I guess I am in a rush to do normal when I am recovering from major surgery. Pete and I had to leave early, and by the time we got home I was in tears from the uncomfortableness. Perhaps with crying, I will manage to get rid of some of that edema, eh? I felt this pressure on my chest and back. I looked in the mirror at my back at the suture line where the muscle had been removed, and it was bulging with fluid. No wonder I was uncomfortable. The sensation was making me nauseated too. I guess that is why my Plastic Surgeon told me to do nothing.

I tried to sleep in my bed, but it wasn’t working still due to causing pain and nausea, so I am still sleeping in the recliner in the front room. I miss being able to sleep in a bed. I am sleeping at longer intervals, but still with interrupted sleep. Hopefully it will get better soon. Good rest means better healing.

Today, I decided that my toe hasn’t been healing well and I wanted the Podiatrist to take a look at my toe. It throbs so much, and I wasn’t liking how it was looking. The color and all. So I had a friend take me to his SLO office which he was kind enough to squeeze me in to look at it. He said it is probably not healing as fast because the chemotherapy probably slowed down my healing and I suspect it could be from the edema I had as well. I had pretty swollen feet. Not a pretty sight. He did a little fix up, (I won’t go into the details), and I will proceed with the same Epsom salt soaks as I was doing. Seems like everything is taking just a little longer to heal, but he said it didn’t look infected. I am glad of that. The throbbing was caused from it being blocked, so hopefully it is corrected now. Now I need to put my feet up and read a good book or listen to some music. I need to allow my body to heal and rest.

Yesterday on Wednesday, I did the best I could to sit and not walk around.
