Monday, was my first radiation treatment, and because it was my first one, it took longer. But also because they needed to take additional pictures and give me an additional tattoo. They need to radiate the axillary area as well since there was cancer involvement there too. I was concerned about my neck because I do have a history of neck issues and a disk that is bad right where I have to lay on the neck thing. But it went alright. I had to stay still for a long period of time. I was not supposed to wiggle around the whole time, but in between photos and the radiation zaps, I wiggled my fingers to make sure they didn’t go tingly.<\/p>\n

\"\"The machine is rather intimidating as it is moving around you in the different positions. You don’t feel anything. I just lay there and stay very still and breath normally. I was thinking about my breathing and hoping I wasn’t breathing too deeply to move my chest wall out of alignment during the procedure, so I thought about my diaphragm and my stomach taking in the breaths as I breathed. I guess yoga has been helpful for that. Ha. The technician told me that Tuesday will be a little long too, but the rest of the treatments will be only about seven minutes. Probably positioning is what takes the longest.<\/p>\n

While the radiation is in process, the technicians are in the next room, but they tell you that they are watching you with a camera, and even show you the monitor in the next room so you don’t feel alone in that big room with the machine. I guess some people get freaked out. I do in close areas, but it was open and not claustrophobic-like at all. I am not good in closed up areas, but this isn’t bad. It is a huge room, and the machine moves all around you.<\/p>\n

Because of having to drive into town everyday, I am going to be doing a lot of back and forth driving especially today. I have my radiation at 11:45 pm, then I need to get back to walk Bert in Los Osos, and then I am meeting my friends in San Luis Obispo at 3:30 pm to celebrate a birthday.
