I was meaning to post yesterday, but it ended up being a very busy day for me. Looks like my husband beat me to it and posted a funny wig picture. Funny guy. He keeps me laughing.
I went to my post surgery appointment for the doctor to check my surgery sites and said both sites looked great and that it was healing well. I will be starting physical therapy soon, but will need to wait until they call me to schedule me in. The doctor is sending me to a therapist that specializes in lymphedema. Once lymph nodes are removed, there can be swelling issues. I had three removed, so I would think there shouldn’t be huge problems, but then what do I know. I will find out soon enough.
After my doctor’s appointment, Pete and I went to look at a wig place in Santa Maria. They had a huge selection and they lady loved the shape of my face, and for some reason just loved on me and said I was a special client. She had as much fun trying the wigs on me as I had trying them on. I actually found two of them that really looked perfect for me, and I ordered the two and the color which really looked great. One is with curls that would be close to what my hair would look like, and the other was shorter and more of a spiky look that really looked great! So two styles, which my coupon covers. The cancer center gave me a coupon for a free wig up to a certain amount. There was one wig she put on me that was very long and cascading curls, and it actually looked incredible on me and very fun. It was way too expensive, and really not practical, but fun. I am not getting that one, but it was interesting to see the different styles and colors. I don’t look that great as a blond or light red.
What I need next are hats and some scarves. I think that is what I will be using the most. I have hats now, but they don’t cover the whole head. Probably just a couple of each should be enough I think. I still have time.
I am so glad that I am feeling better. I need to remind myself to not overdo it, because I still feel sort of weak and tired, but not fatigued and foggy brained. I have a clear mind today, and my stomach seems ok. I need to still be careful what I eat, because even though I felt better yesterday, my stomach still has moments of queasiness. I need to make sure I rest in between doing things as well.
I have family that came to visit me, so I am going to relax and enjoy the company. My brother-in-law offered to help where I might need some help, so if it drys up enough the lawn is begging for mowing. It should be a good visit, and if I need to lay down, I am going to listen to my body and do it.
Yeah for the up time!!!!! I will beat this yet with the help of God, my husband, my wonderful church family, friends and neighbors. You don’t know how much you are all appreciated!
I’m glad you had fun with the wigs. The hats will be fun, too! I’m happy you are feeling better, and getting used to the pattern, taking time to rest and recover, not overdoing. Keep letting people love on you! Hugs!
I did sort of overdo it, and I was very tired the next day. I just need to take a rest time daily and not do too much. I ended up getting the side effect from the injection for after chemo. It was ugly pain. So I have to learn to manage weekly with different symptoms and side effects of the medications. My reprieves are very short lived. These two weeks are my learning curve.
Glad you are feeling better Di! Way to go!!
I was doing great, and then in the wee hours of the morning of March 30th, around 12:30 am, unbelievable pain hit me in my low back. There was absolutely no position I could lay to be without pain. It was a severe pressure and throbbing, and very different from any pain I had ever felt. I remember that they said the the injection had a side effect of joint pain. That was what the other nurse said. But I called the oncologists office and the RN manager told me that it was from the medication. I have to manage it with Claritin and a pain pill. I had some left over pain pills from my surgery, so it did help, but every 6 hours it wears off and the pain hits with a vengeance. Everyday is a new experience.
