Slow Recovery

Today, I had one follow-up appointment with my Podiatrist, which I am finding my toe is taking longer to heal than I expected. The doctor told me that it isn’t too usual with everything I am going through. I suppose that my body  is in overdrive with healing everywhere. I hope my toe hurries up and starts getting better soon because I have too much to take care of on this old body.

A dear friend and her husband came to clean my house, and did such a great job! Another friend called out of the blue whom has been so busy; we hadn’t seen one another since I was midway through my chemo. She was walking her grand baby, and called to see if they could stop by. It was a delight to have a visit from a friend and a darling baby. Since my house was being cleaned and the vacuum was bothering the little darling babe, I told Cathy that I needed a walk anyway, so I managed to go farther today than yesterday. It was a beautiful day, albeit windy. Our weather in Los Osos is so weird I have to admit. We have these multiple sub-climates all over, so it might be cold on one end of the street, and hot at the other end. Layered clothing is the answer to such craziness. I was glad to get a little exercise and glad to have someone walk me until I am stronger.

I was very exhausted after that, and had to take it easy the rest of the day. I kept dozing even with a good book. Another friend called who was walking her dog, so she stopped by and then helped me do a load of laundry. I have learned in this season, that when someone offers to do something, I need to go ahead and have them help, because this surgery and season is really taking its toll on me. I loved seeing her sweet dog, and her dog had never been in my house before, so she had such an excited happy dog face. I love that face.

I even wrote my pastor today and mentioned that Pete is looking stressed (school is starting at Cal Poly very soon) in light of deadlines and such, and the lawn needs mowing. I laid down for a bit and when I got up to go out to do a little watering, the lawn was mowed. I never heard them! I don’t even know who mowed the lawn. It was a mystery helper. Thank you whoever it was! When I told Peter, it blessed him. He has much on his plate as you can well imagine.

Another lovely meal was brought by my friend Pat, and I was happy she stayed a few minutes to chat. I think even though I feel very tired, I am enjoying connecting with people again even if it is for short periods of time.

I am still not sleeping well at night, although a bit better because I have a sleeping pill that works for me. I probably would sleep through if it wasn’t for the post surgical pain kicking in, so I have to get up and eat something light to take pain medication. I know I can do anything especially when I know it is temporary, and I will heal up from my battle wounds.
