Look Good, Feel Better

Today, I went to a class offered for chemotherapy patients in Arroyo Grande at the American Cancer Society. There was one other lady who signed up, so just the two of us, but the woman who was leading it, was also a cancer patient currently having chemotherapy as well. The class was called, “Look Good, Feel Better”.

The class was to instruct makeup application for making us feel and look better. Losing our hair is difficult enough, so this was a fun activity to do and I met two other ladies undergoing similar treatments as myself. The American Cancer Society provided makeup and cleansers and even a bag that it all was stored in for us. No cost to us. The lovely gift was donated from several makeup companies, so each kit was different with different items. We only needed to request light, medium, or dark for our individual skin types.

After we did the makeup, we three tried on some wigs that were there and I picked out more knitted hats and caps that were softer and less irritating than the ones I had at home. I even found another wig that was absolutely darling on me. I even like it better than the other one, but I will use both.

It has been a privilege to meet so many people in this season. We are all going through a difficult season, and just meeting these people seems to put a close connection with people I would have never met. We encourage one another, and share our different stories. Each and every story is unique. Even in this hard time, I can see that God loves us so individually, and we are each special to Him.

    • Thank you Talitha. This whole experience really makes you view things differently. I am meeting people I would have never met if this hadn’t ever happened. Bad things happen in our lives, but at least we have God to help us through.

    • Hi Deanna! I am glad you are doing better. A small bowel blockage is a terrible thing to go through. I am sorry for your loss of Monty. He was a fine fellow, and he had a good life.

I have been wearing all kinds of hats, caps, scarves, and alternating between two wigs. It is odd to not have hair, but it will grow back. It will be interesting to see how it looks when it does. I have been hearing some very interesting stories of people’s hair growth.

Thank you so much for your prayers. It is much appreciated, and I feel the support of everyone’s prayers. We will connect again soon. I just have to plan it in between my chemo cycles for when I am feeling the best.

      Bless you and David.
