Yesterday and today were better days. I was tired today just from over doing it yesterday and not sleeping well, but otherwise it is good to know that there are days that I will be feeling better. I have to remind myself to rest everyday, because I discovered that I feel extra tired the next day.
Yesterday was Pete’s birthday, so I was glad to feel well enough to back him a cake. I made one of his grandmother’s recipes of gingerbread cake. It is a family favorite and always a hit. We had our usual prayer group on Monday night at our house, and I decided to just make it a mini party afterward. I am glad I was able to do it, because if I waited to do it on the weekend or on a Friday, it was sure to end up being when I am on my cycle of chemo. It worked out perfectly and he was a happy camper with friends to celebrate with. It was wonderful to have a fun day and enjoy the company of friends, especially to make my husband the center of the attention.
Originally, yesterday I was scheduled to have my surgery, and I felt awful that it ended up on Pete’s birthday. But then it was canceled due to both the surgical oncologist and medical oncologist agreeing that chemotherapy was needed prior to the surgery to shrink the tumor to make way for a “clear margin” with the removal of the tumor. I am so glad that we didn’t have to have Pete’s birthday as a reminder of such a surgery. A blessing in disguise.
My next chemotherapy is on Thursday, and then the Neulesta injection on Friday. My treatments are every other week. I called in for my prescription renewal for the anti nausea medication, and when I went in today to pick it up to be ready for my treatments this week, they said that it wasn’t ready because they were waiting for insurance approval. This stuff is stressful enough as it is without the insurance playing their goofy power games. I guess I can only have the medication filled once a month, and they only give me enough for the one cycle, so I will have management of nausea for every other cycle. I called the doctor’s office to see if they can persuade the insurance to follow the doctor’s order, but I have come across this before with the insurance and they don’t budge. They don’t want to pay more than they think they should. So I will just pray and hope that I can tolerate this cycle without the anti nausea medicines. I am not looking forward to experiencing this without these medications, but it doesn’t look like I have a choice.
Anyway, I can just rely on the strength of God to get me through this. He promised me that he would. I will get through this because in my weakness, I will become strong by His grace.
2 Cor 12: 8 – 10 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
