The Incredible Kindness of People

Today was an interesting day. This morning, I had an appointment with my oncology radiologist, and he went over my MRI results and gave me his opinion on issues and answered many of my questions that I had. He was very thorough in his answers and I was very pleased that he took the time to answer my questions in great detail. He also gave me some food for thought. I need to think about it more and talk with my oncology surgeon about what he discussed and discuss her options. I have plenty of time to make my decisions and pray about it.

My friend Pat drove me to the appointment just in case I was still having dizziness issues, and then we went to lunch afterward to New Frontiers to have a healthy lunch. It was nice to spend time with someone I don’t get opportunity to spend time with and that was a great blessing for me. I hope to spend more time in the future with her. We had a wonderful time. I am blessed to have so many wonderful and sweet friends! God is good to me to give me such wonderful friends. They are my gifts from God.

One of my clients gave me a discount coupon for 10th Street Grill since she was going to be out of town and not able to use it as it would be expired by the time she returned, so since Pete and I had good news with my MRI we needed to to splurge and celebrate. It is a very good restaurant, but we don’t go often due to budgeting. I didn’t feel like wearing my wig tonight because it turns out that I am allergic to the materials on the inside of the wigs and always end up with sores on my head from them. I have delicate skin. So I wore one of my lovely scarves over my turban, and it went well with the outfit I had on; so off we went to have a nice dinner out which we hadn’t done in ever so long.

They had some wonderful sounding specials and I saw scallops on the regular menu with a steak, but I also thought the lamb special sounded good as well. Peter told the owner that we were visiting because we had received “good news.” I told the owner that I was torn between the scallops and lamb, so he made a special just for me, and I had a lamb chop and scallops with vegetables. Excellent food. Then he offered to treat us to a dessert because of our “good news,” so he brought me a glass of Sirah port (the other desserts all had milk in them). There was a table of people–strangers–that were leaving after they were finished with their dinner, and the women saw me with my scarf and turban and greeted me sweetly as they passed by me.

When I wear my scarves, it seems to alert people to what I am going through and I am treated with unbelievable, wonderful compassion from strangers. I feel a very humble feeling this evening because of the compassion that people are expressing towards me, and I feel so blessed in the midst of this great trial I am going through. I pray that I never forget this feeling that I am experiencing from others and will look for opportunity when I am well to bless others who are going through hardship. How can anyone go through this without something changing inside of ourselves? God certainly takes the awful and uses it for good (just like he promised).
