Now that I am finished with my chemotherapy, I have been planning in my mind to try to do some things that I haven’t been well enough to do. But since it was my last chemo treatment, it really hit me hard and it seems like the effects have been accumulative, which means that the pain is a bit more, and the effects are lasting longer. I at least had some pain medicine to get me by, and I have mostly been resting since the last time I wrote in my blog. I think the saving grace in all of this is I know that there is an end date to this and not a moment too soon at that.
Last Thursday was our support group evening, but both of our groups got canceled because of the July 4th holiday and most of the people were not able to make it. I was sort of glad in a way because I wasn’t feeling well. I was planning on going regardless because I had already missed three meetings in a row, and now this is four. It at least gave me the chance to have another rest night.
Yesterday, Friday, I had one appointment, and then I was going to try to do some exercise like walking; but I was so light-headed that I decided I wasn’t really up to it. I decided not to take any pain medicine to see if I would be more motivated to do things, but the end result was I couldn’t do anything because it actually hurt to walk. I really didn’t help myself in doing that I realize now.
Today I went ahead and took something for pain and was actually able to get out with Pete to do some errands and get out of the house. This morning I tried doing some yoga with a DVD I bought a long while back at an estate sale. I had never actually ever looked at it before, so it was new and I didn’t know what to expect. It was a beginning one, so it wasn’t too hard. I was more flexible than I thought I would be, but it was a little different than just an ordinary stretching video. I am now “one with the earth” LOL. At least that is what the lady kept saying. I was trying to keep my balance and found I needed to work on that, so the earth and I didn’t connect as well as the lady was directing on the DVD. Anyway, the stretching was a good thing, and I plan to try a yoga class next week or so at the Vet’s Hall in SLO that is offered by the Hearst Cancer Resource Center.
Coming this month are several doctor appointments and my MRI will be towards the end of the month, so things are coming along. I hope to start feeling more energy during this time and I plan to do some exercises to build my strength and endurance. That is the plan, but my body may have a different plan. I just need to go one day at a time. Since I am feeling a little better I welcome your phone calls to say “Hi.”
In this season of my life I am at peace that God has chosen us to go through this and we are aware that He is carrying us through. I ponder on what good thing God has planned for me and what I will be doing this time next year. In my Bible study, I was just reading that we cannot boast about our plans because we do not know what will happen in the future. At the beginning of this year I had my whole year planned out–but that all changed. My life is not my own and I am in God’s hands.
James 4:13-15
New Living Translation (NLT)
13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.”
Diane,
If you go to the yoga class and the Vet’s Hall is not open, the teacher sometimes is a little late. The class is advertised through Hearst as 4:00 pm but really doesn’t start until 4:15. Say hi to my friends for me!
I will keep that in mind. Maybe I might start it next week so I am not running behind for our last home group meeting on Wednesday. We are finishing up a book study, so I may just start the yoga class the following week. I will say hi when I do go. Blessings to you.
