Wednesday, I went to my annual GYN visit, which I actually postponed from an earlier date because the appointment was originally on a day that I was recovering from surgery. It was scheduled the day after my operation, so I knew that I was not going to be available to go see him. Ha. Anyway, I hadn’t talked to him since he diagnosed me in February when he got the results of my right breast biopsy. What a turn of events since that day!
He did tell me that there is sometimes a correlation of breast cancer to ovarian cancer, so it is good that he checks me. I never told him that my aunt died of ovarian cancer, so it is in the family from my dad’s side. I hadn’t heard of any breast cancer in the family though. Ovarian cancer is much more insidious in that if you do get symptoms, it is usually in the late stages because it is hard to even diagnose unless you go in for your annual exams and the physician catches the changes.
Prior to my doctor visit, I did the exercises on the DVD that the therapist gave me. This DVD is made specifically for mastectomy patients and was developed by a doctor, and choreographed by a physical therapist and a ballet instructor as well. What great stretches! A couple of moves really hurt because I am so stiff from surgery. To think I was doing “P90X” prior to all this and now I am starting all over again. At least this DVD is a good way for me to start slowly.
There was a bible study I wanted to go to, but with the activities today and beginning my range of motion exercises, I was really hurting and exhausted. I sent Peter on his way and I stayed home and read a good book and dozed off. It was a good day.
Hi Dianne, I’ll concur with the doc. bc/oc are allied for some people (those who are BRCA1 or BRCA2 positive) I know this because I’m BRCA1 pos. and so was my sis, who sadly passed away from ovarian cancer at a very young age. If you are not BRCA1 or 2 pos though the correlation drops significantly. Not sure if you did the genetic testing, but that’s the only way to determine BRCA status.
Glad to see that you are in a very healing space and that things are moving forward for you. It was a busy summer with the BFFM summer challenge, and I was happy to finish.
Continued blessings for your increased health and vitality.

I never had the genetic testing only because there hasn’t been a family history of breast cancer that I am aware of. So sorry about your sister. Ovarian cancer is very insidious. I had the HercepTest which said I was Estrogen Positive, Progesterone Negative, and Her2 Negative. I don’t know if my insurance will pay for the genetic testing without having a history. It would be useful to know.
I am glad you finished the BFFM challenge. It was my plan to do it, but the events of this year changed that. I plan to do a future challenge to get strong again, but I am not sure I will be ready for the Holiday Challenge. I was planning on it, but I don’t know if I will be still in the throws of radiation treatments or still need to recover, or if I will be having my next phase of surgery. Surgery will probably be early next year after I have recovered I would imagine.
