Busy Week

This week has been one of much running around. Not only have I had radiation everyday that I have to go into San Luis Obispo daily, I have had other appointments around town as well. Then my dog service. I have been staying at Bella’s house while Pete is holding his own at home. Then on Tuesdays and Thursdays I walk Bert. He is a good guy.

I guess I mentioned that I interviewed with another new client and have already set up a sitting job with them. It is working out nicely. I will resume yoga as soon as I get done with my sitting job with Bella. It is just too much. I haven’t been as compliant with my stretches because I have been running from one place to the next. Today I was good, and when I came home, I did do most of a stretching workout before I went to walk Bert.

A friend of Pete and myself was in a severe motorcycle accident and he is critical care, so Monday I went in to visit him and all the family and visitors. I think I already had mention it earlier. I didn’t get to go in to see my friend, because ICU was much too crowded, and he wouldn’t have known I was there anyway. It means more to the wife and family that I showed up to check on him.

I did decide that I am not going in to visit my friend in ICU again because it occurred to me that I shouldn’t be around that many people and especially the hospital while I am undergoing radiation. I may not feel as wiped out like chemo, but I am still at risk of immunity being compromised. I will email her and watch the updates on Facebook. That would be better for me anyway. I love seeing all of them, but I need to think of myself right now too. I can pray from my home and elsewhere.

Tonight, (Thursday evening), is our support groups. I haven’t been for the last two times and I am planning on being there. It will be nice to see everyone and to also share what a special time it was at the breast cancer survivor’s retreat.

This morning, while I was walking Bella, I passed some children as they were heading to school. A little boy was staring at me and he asked me if I was a man and he couldn’t tell. I was horrified that I looked that bad! I did have a big hoodie sweatshirt and a cap to cover my cold head, so I guess I didn’t have anything feminine on, but it was very foggy, and wet, so I was thinking comfort and staying dry and warm. My hair is growing out now, and it is very short of course and could look like a man’s haircut. But I still didn’t feel very happy that I look like a man. I don’t feel very attractive now. I am certainly not going to dress in heels and a dress when I am walking a dog in the mud and fog. So I am not going to look so great then I suppose. But the upside is I won’t be bothered by predators while I am walking if I look male. This just isn’t the time for me to feel ugly with everything going on. Oh well. Kids can say awful and thoughtless things. I didn’t chose to lose my hair, but it is all part of the chemotherapy treatment side effect.

Well, I need to dash again and get over to my dog sitting. I am feeling very tired because this dog, Bella is a restless sleeper. She gets up in the night and then stands next to my bed and whimpers. She even got under the covers with me and was a noisy sleeper, then jumped up and did the whole routine again in the next hour. I hope I survive this lack of sleep. The owners don’t get home until November 12. Maybe I should medicate the dog with some Benedryl to help her sleep. Just kidding. I am tempted though.

Tomorrow is one of my support group friend’s surgery. I plan to stop in and check on her after my radiation. I know I shouldn’t be around the hospital during my radiation, but I will make it quick, and say hi to her dad and if she is back, I will see her briefly.

Well, off I go………

  1. You are one busy gal Dianne! That’s wonderful though, isn’t it. Your job is one you love & getting paid besides! I don’t usually reply to blogs very often but wanted you to know that you most definitely do NOT look like a guy. Children are often black & white the way they analyze things…so short hair must be a guy & long hair a gal.
I hope we can get together for lunch next Wed but if you are too busy I understand.
Keep trucking on!!! Radiation will be over before you realize it!!
    Love, Pat
