I came down with the crazy flu that is going around. I have had really bad diarrhea for over a week, and thought perhaps it was the new medication. I looked online and one of the side effects was diarrhea. I thought more about it and realized that maybe it could have been caused by a new liquid calcium I was using.
But now I know it was actually the flu. Wednesday evening about a half hour after we returned from a bible study at a friend’s home, I started getting chilled where I couldn’t get warm and shook violently. My temperature spiked to 101.8 and I was nauseated. I realized then I was fighting a bug all week and it finally took its toll on me.
So, Thursday morning I called to cancel my acupuncture appointment, and the acupuncturist said that I wasn’t contagious and the treatment might help. I am an RN and know different. That made me think that this guy just wants the money and isn’t concerned that I will be spreading the flu. I told him I would just reschedule for next week because I was too ill to even get to the appointment. My whole body ached, and I couldn’t think of bringing myself to even leave the house. I called the radiologist’s office to ask them if I should still come in for my radiation treatment, and they told me it wouldn’t make a difference if I skipped it because it is the number of treatments that count. So I stayed home and I was in bed all day yesterday.
I had Bert to walk, but I had asked Pete if he had a busy schedule for Thursday, and he automatically called in for a family sick day. They are really good at Cal Poly. The supervisor knows what I am going through and said Pete can take family sicks days as needed. It was needed. He walked my client, Bert which he loves anyway, and then brought him home to visit me. The owner was going to be working extra long and said I could have him out for the day. It worked out great and Bert loved the company. We gave Bert a lot of attention, and he napped with me too. He is a good fellow.
Today, Friday, I still had a low grade temperature of 101.1. I called the radiologist’s office to see if I could come in for my radiation treatment, and I did feel a little better, albeit tired, but the doctor told me to stay home and rest, then they will see me on Monday. I should be better by then if I rest well. That is all I am going to do today. I do not want this to last too long.
There are some friends who are visiting for a month that will be at church on Sunday and there will be a potluck, but depending on my temperature and how I am feeling, I might not go. When I am better, we will just have them over or something. I have to take care of myself right now. I missed my support group last night, but I really was not well enough to go. There are too many friends there that are compromised in their immunity with all of our cancer treatments, so it wouldn’t be fair to them or myself.
Well, back to resting I go…….
