It has definitely been a busy week with surgery coming up on Monday. Tuesday I went to the Plastic Surgeon for my pre-op visit and read all the paperwork and last minute information for surgery. Wednesday I had to drive down to Santa Maria to do all my pre-op paperwork, blood draws, chest x-ray, EKG, and talk to the nurse and all. Then the RN told me I needed to come on Sunday to have blood drawn to be typed & crossed for blood to be ready in case I needed a transfusion. A lot of driving this week. I won’t be able to go to church because they want it done before noon. Oh well, I get prayer weather I am at church or not, but it would have been nice to see people the day before surgery. I am feeling good, so I want to do as much while I do feel good.
On Wednesday I had a prior lunch date with a friend for her birthday, so she ended up going down to Santa Maria with me. It was nice to have company, and she is a fun friend as well. I am glad she didn’t mind. It can get pretty boring with the sitting around at hospitals waiting and waiting. My appointment down there was at 2:30 pm, so we were both late to our evening activities. She had a meeting at 5 pm, and I had one scheduled at 5:30, but I didn’t get her home until just after 5 pm, but it wasn’t critical. Pete and I had a dinner date with another couple, so I felt bad having them wait, but it couldn’t be helped. We still had a great time and a nice dinner.
When I came home from Santa Maria and dropped my friend off, I was noticing that the power was out at the signal lights, and when I got home, I couldn’t open the garage door. I realized that it was a power outage for the whole town of Los Osos. My neighbor next door came by thinking it was just his house, but I told him it was the whole town. When Pete got home, we had to leave right away to meet our friends for dinner in San Luis Obispo, and we saw the traffic was backed up on Los Osos Valley Road coming into town and a car was rolled over on the side of the road. The car had hit a power line and thus the power outage. I don’t know when PG&E got the power back on, but everything was on again. I hope the person was ok that had the accident. It appeared to be a one car incident as far as I could tell.
I am going to need to read all the paperwork the rest of this week that they gave me. I know a lot of the things in the paperwork being an RN, so I can skim it quickly. I know there has been a lot of advances in things since I was working in a hospital, but nursing care is pretty much the same through the years.
It will be good to finally get through this part of this process. I am feeling strong and well except for my toe that is still healing, but I am doing my soaks and hopefully it will be healed more by the time the day of surgery is here.
